Will and James | 2 year update

3:56 PM

My baby boys are Two years old!  Two years ago my life changed forever and it have been the best and fastest two years of my life!!!  I don't know where my little babies have gone.  I am in awe everyday at how big and grown up Will and James are becoming.  They truly are no longer babies, but are becoming big boys with sweet and feisty personalities.  They are becoming more independent wanting to do things for themselves.

I am truly blessed that I get to be their mama.  I am learning from them every day and strive to be the best mama I can for them.  They teach me about love, patience, forgiveness.  They are making me a better person.  I can't imagine my life without them!!

Happy 2nd Birthday to my sweet boys who made me a mama!!!  I hope this next year is your best one yet!!

It is a struggle to try and get a picture with both boys looking at me at the same time, so heres a few of my best shots!

What's New: Development and Interests

Books, pumpkins, ghosts, trucks and kitties are just a few things that are interesting the boys right now!

The boys are loving having books read to them.  We have gone through a few favorites over the past few months including: Goodnight Moon, On the Night you were Born, Mother Bruce, Where the Wild Things Are, Quantum Physics for Babies, My First Trucks, Five Minutes Peace, Goodnight Maine, If you Give a Mouse a Cookie, If you Give a Moose a Muffin, Where You Are my love will find you, It's Pumpkin Day Mouse.

The boys have been obsessed with pumpkins for a while now.  They love the book It's pumpkin day mouse and any pumpkin they see gets them giddy!  I took the boys to a pumpkin patch back in October and they were in love with all the pumpkins!  They are also enthralled with ghost decorations people have had up for Halloween and were very concerned when I told them they would be coming down since Halloween was over.  They call ghosts "boos" and request going on walks to see the "boos".  On these walks the boys and I met an extremely sweet neighborhood kitty the boys call "eow".  They love visiting the "eow" and will actually request going to see the kitty instead of going to the park.

Trucks/Vehicles are a new interest of the boys: trains, tractors, garbage trucks, delivery trucks, dump trucks.  They want to see them when we are out an about, read books about them and play with all of their truck toys!

The zoo!  I love the little zoo we have here and so do the boys!  The animals are always pretty active and easy to see and if you go during the week it usually isn't too crowded.  The boys have a few favorite animals at the zoo right now: the giraffes (Will loves to feed them lettuce), the meerkats, and the emu.  The last one is funny to me but seems to be a favorite of Will's.

As far a development goes the boys now climb the stairs both up and down standing up holding onto the railing.  This is nice and nerve wrecking at the same time, mostly them coming down, it can make me a little nervous when they start moving quickly that they will loose their footing.

The boys are starting to really play and use their imagination now.  They will construct towers with their blocks, drive their cars around

What's New: Language and Understanding

In the past month the boys language has really started to take off.  They are repeating most words we say and have several words that they use independently now.  I still have difficulty understanding what they are saying sometimes but am starting to figure out they word attempts.

Words they are using:  moon, baby, milk, water, kitty, meow, pink, blue, green, yellow, purple, two, boo, pumpkin, candy, dada, mama, grambie, geep, shoes, sneakies, spoon, bruce, eek, mouse, moose, tea, Choo Choo, trucks, tractor, trash, hi, bye bye, help, bus, please, thank you, zoo, up, down, hot, cold, balloon, ball ( I know there are probably more, but I can't think of them now)

The boys continue to have excellent understanding of what is said to them and what is going on around them.  They are capable of following complex directions easily.  They are able to problem solve situations for themselves.

Miscellaneous

A big change for the boys is they are now big brothers!  They have transitioned to becoming big brothers much better than I could have expected.  They love their sister and want to help care for her. They enjoy getting diapers for her, patting her back when she needs to burp and bouncing her seat when she starts to cry.  They will ask to hold her and want to give her hugs and kisses.

They have had a few behavior issues since Ellie came home but those were present before she was born.  They have definitely started to show some classic two year old behavior: tantrums, crying, fighting among themselves.  The biggest problem they have had with Ellie coming home was my inability to carry them up the stairs the first week after Ellie was born.

Separation Anxiety is also in full force.  This has intensified since I left the boys for 24 hours to go to the hospital.  I missed putting the boys to bed twice while I was gone.  Will seems to have the separation anxiety worse than James.  If I leave the room Will is in sometimes and he is unable to find me it can result in 15-20 minutes of inconsolable crying.

The boys learned how to drink from a water bottle and while they were trying to figure out how not to spill the water all over themselves James was drinking and some how got his lips sucked into the bottle.  (Maybe not the nicest mom,  but I found it so funny!) His reaction was funny the look on his face like "what happened".
