Weekend Happenings

8:34 PM

Or should I say lack there of... This weekend was pretty uneventful.  I have been feeling a little drained after having to say goodbye to Barklee on Thursday and wasn't up for doing too much this weekend.  And William and James are fighting a small cold making them a little cranky and extra clingy so a quiet weekend was definitely in order!

I didn't want to let my tiredness get us down so the boys and I started the weekend off on Friday by a trip to the zoo.  (We might go to often since the trainers in the kangaroo exhibit know the boys). We spent about four hours watching the animals, playing in the jeep by the lions and stretching our legs by the elephants.  On this trip the new wallaroo named merl was a big hit with the boys.  He was very active hopping around the exhibit making Will and James laugh.

Saturday morning I took Will and James to the indoor play at the gymnastics gym.  As usual they had a great time climbing all the blocks, throwing balls, and jumping on trampolines.

After a nap we spent the afternoon outside enjoying the beautiful weather: 50 degrees and sunny it couldn't get much better! (The weather is still nice I'm actually sitting outside in the sun while writing this!).

Sunday was a quiet day at home, a pajamas all day kind of a day (at least for the boys).  We watched church, ate breakfast, played and napped (again just the boys).   I snuck out after nap time to do a little grocery shopping on my own while the boys had someone special Daddy only time!  When I got home the boys and I made a smoothie and headed back outside to play some more.  One more nap for the Will and James, trying to kick this cold in the butt, rounded out our day.
Will really enjoying his smoothie (please ignore the Christmas lights on the playhouse)

Even though our weekend was pretty uneventful it was nice spending a few quiet days at home.  Hope you all had a great weekend spending times with the ones you love!

Fur Baby

Goodbyes are hard

3:47 PM

Yesterday I said goodbye to a member of my family, to one of my fur babies: my Barklee Boo Kitty.  It was time to say goodbye and I know she is in a better place no longer in any discomfort, but it is still tough.  I am thankful for our wonderful vet who made the experience peaceful and calm.  I am thankful for the wonderful vet tech who entertained my boys so I could focus on Barklee and give her my undivided attention.  It was as good as I could have hoped for as she fell asleep in my arms with no fear or pain.  I knew this time was coming and one of my biggest worries was Barklee would be afraid but I didn't need to worry because there was no fear, just relief from the discomfort.

Barklee was a great dog, a strange, crazy and neurotic dog, but a great dog non the less.  She was a member of my family, one of my first babies.  I always say I have four babies with fur and two naked babies.  She had a love for me that was something fierce.  I was her person and no one but me would do!  She may have only been eight pounds but she ruled the roost here and put our 50lb  and 70lb dogs in line.  She was very vocal, so her name Barklee was very fitting.  I used to say she would talk to me, I could ask her a question and she would definitely answer.  She could jump from the ground up into my arms, she had springs in her feet.  I'm not sure I will ever meet another dog like Barklee, she is deeply missed and there is an emptiness in our home that she leaves behind.  It is hard to imagine that she will never curl up in my arms while I'm sleeping or lick me incessantly again.  I am thankful for the time I got to have Barklee in my life.  She was a furry little blessing that brought a lot of joy to my life!  I will miss her deeply!!  Rest in Peace Boo Kitty!!
