Weekend Happenings

9:49 PM

This weekend flew by.  With the last two weekends being four day weekends for Christopher this weekend went by way too quickly.  The weather here has actually been cloudy and rainy for a while now, so we did not get out of the house much on Saturday other than to run a quick errand to Target.  So after being cooped up in the house for several days thanks to the rain I decided that on Sunday we had to get out and do something.  After tossing around a few ideas we decided to make a trip to the zoo.  It was cloudy but rain wasn't forecasted until later in the day.  The weather ended up cooperating beautifully and with rain forecasted the zoo was basically empty!  It was wonderful to enjoy the zoo on a weekend with Christopher without it being crowded.

Every time we take the boys to the zoo it is like a new experience as they are growing and changing so much.  This is the first trip to the zoo that the boys were walking which added a whole new element of fun to our trip!

I really enjoy our zoo for the most part.  It isn't too big, but has great animals and is working on improving the animal habitats.  It has a great seal and sea lion exhibit and wonderful African adventure habitat where you can see rhinos, zebras, lions, African elephants, giraffes, and some other gazelle like animals.  We are also big fans of the petting zoo and made huge strides this visit without being terrified of the goats!

The Kangaroo exhibit is new.  It is very neat, the kangaroos are out in the open with you and are moving freely through their habitat.  Normally you walk down the path and exit through a different gate, but during our visit a few of the kangaroos were relaxing on the path.  While we were watching the few kangaroos on the path another kangaroo hopped right up to us.  I don't think I've ever been that close to a kangaroo before!

This is the Kangaroo that hopped up to us!

After being at the zoo for a while we stopped at the zoo's cafe for lunch.  It is a great set up over looking the African Adventure part of the zoo.  The boys certainly were hungry and devoured a whole serving of mac n cheese all by themselves: I've never seen them eat that much before!

After lunch we saw the lions and made our way to the African elephant habitat.  This part of the zoo is like a cul da sac so it was the perfect place to let the boys out to stretch their legs (without worrying too much about them escaping)

Exhausted after a great day at the zoo! Ready for a nap in the car on the way home!!

Wish we could go back to those sweet moments we had on Sunday exploring the zoo with our boys!  These special times go by too quickly!

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend!
