Will and James | 14 Months

12:30 PM

This month both feels as though it was really long and as though it has flown by! Dece, bee was so fun with Will and James. I tried to full our month with as many fun and festive activities as I could and the boys enjoyed most things to do with Christmas: lights and music yes, cookies and hot chocolate yes, Santa Claus not so much (maybe that will change next year!) The boys have done a lot of growing this month and are turning into toddlers.

James
Height: approx. 32.25in (birth: 18.5in)

Development
There are big things this month... we official have TWO walking boys! It is very exciting. And just as I predicted William took a little longer to take his first steps but within a few days of taking his first steps he was walking around as much as his brother was. It amazes me how the boys have kept this pattern for their motor skills since they were just a few months old and learning to roll over; James has been the one to do a new skill first but takes a while to master the skill, Will is second to do the skill but has it mastered usually within days of starting.  Walking was no different James took his first steps last month and has been working on it ever since and Will waited until this month to take his first steps but now is just as proficient at walking as his brother.

The boys both now have 8 teeth each.  Their two front teeth are coming and James is also getting in his bottom right tooth (Will got this tooth awhile ago, to this day this is the only tooth that they haven't gotten in within days of each other). So they now have their four top and four bottom teeth. Once their two front teeth make it all the way in their little smiles are going to change so much. No more vampire babies!

Will learned a new trick this month... he learned how to stand with his head on the ground  looking through his legs. He was very proud of himself and would do it often especially in the evening after bath time naked in the dog bed! Its so funny to watch him and he cracks himself up doing it!! After watching how much fun Will was having James figured it out too and now they will both stand like this laughing away.

Both boys are really wanting to play with the big kids more and more.  Whether we are at play group or at the park they intently watch the older kids playing and are eager to join in, unfortunately their little bodies just won't let them participate sometimes.

We don't watch too much tv around here basically because it really doesn't hold the boys attention for very long, but with the holidays I thought it would be fun to try and watch a few Christmas movies.  We watched: How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Elf, The Santa Clause, The Polar Express, A Muppets Christmas Carol, and The Muppet's Family Christmas.  Only The Santa Clause and The Muppet's Family Christmas held their attention for any amount of time.  But it was fun to enjoy the Christmas movies I love with them!

Language and Understanding
The boys continue to work on their language skills this month. They definitely know what they want and are working on making their wants and needs understood.  There is a lot of pointing, babbling, and crying (when mommy doesn't figure out what we want fast enough). They continue to use all the same words as last month, but now also use the word pretty (usually referring to the "pretty" christmas lights).  When you ask them what an elephant says with will make a noise kind of like blowing a raspberry (imitating mommy's poor attempt at an elephant trumpet)

Their understanding of what is being said to them continues to increase and I'm surprised sometime at what they understand.  When you tell them that something is hot they will sniff, because to them it sounds like blowing (we still need to working on actually blowing).  They are following directions more and more: picking up items I ask for, handing me or their brother something, or going places.

They now know the names of many things: diaper, ball, cup, paci, socks, shoes, feet, bath, table, chair, button, outside, swing, book, blocks, turtle, cow, dog, duck, captain, boat, fish, water.  There are probably more items they know the names of but I can't think of them right now.

For Christmas the boys received animal magnets in their stockings.  William has learned which magnet is the turtle and it is the sweetest thing.  Any time you ask him to find his turtle he will go and find it on his chalkboard and bring it to you!  He seems to really love that little turtle magnet!

Another big skill this month the boys have master is stacking items on stacking toys (like a ring stacker).  This is something they have been working on and it is sweet to watch as they work hard to get the shapes on the stacker.  Will is incredibly sweet to watch as he will clap for himself after each shape is put on, even if no one is watching him!

James

My Sweet James
You are such a big boy James!  You are walking more and this really makes you seem like much more of toddler than a little baby boy.  You continue to be as sweet as ever, although you are getting a small temper when you get frustrated that mommy doesn't understand what you want fast enough!  You love your brother, your doggies and your daddy!  Your face lights up when daddy walks through the door at the end of the day.  This month you have started to really play with toys; I enjoy watching you figure out how to play with your toys.  Your snuggles are the best as you tuck your arms to your side and snuggle into my arms.  Each month gets better and better with you and I can't wait to see what the next month has in store for you!

Love you my sweet baby boy!

William Clayton
Your sweet personality has really started to shine this month.  You have made big leaps with month when it comes to walking and have quickly caught up to your brother.  Your understanding this month amazes me almost daily; you easily follow directions I give you and will pick up items I ask you for.  You have the sweetest fascination with this little magnetic turtle and will carry him around.  You get so excited when you complete a task and will clap for yourself and will look around for others to clap for you also!  I enjoy every day with you and each day gets better and better!  I love watching you learn and seeing the understanding in your eyes!  I look forward to seeing what the next month has in store for you my sweet boy!

I Love you SO much!
