12 days of Christmas

Twelve Days of Christmas | Day 12

9:08 PM

Well We made it! Twelve Days of activities and gifts!  I have had a great time coming up with cute treats for Christopher and filling the boys days with fun festive activities!  I look forward to doing this again next year.

Merry Christmas Eve!!

Twelve Days of Christmas | Little Boys Addition:  Cookie Delivery

Today the boys  and I delivered the cookies we made a few days ago to our neighbors.  After delivering the cookies, playing at the park for a little bit, the boys insisted that they get a cookie as well!

Today we also enjoyed another Christmas movie!  I found a childhood favorite of mine on YouTube today,  "A Muppet's Family Christmas" in all its glory!  I have this movie on VHS from a recording my mom took off the TV in 1987.  Considering I don't have a VCR anymore the VHS doesn't really work for me to watch the movie, so I was delighted to find this movie today and to have the boys watch it.  It is only the second movie that has held the boys attention.  I love enjoying these special holiday movies that I love with William and James!

Merry Christmas Eve Eve

Twelve Days of Christmas | Little Boy Addition

Today was a fun day with the boys.  Our Christmas activity for today was yet another Christmas movie.  Today it was The Santa Clause.  And this movie so far is the only Christmas movie that has held the boys attention, which is pretty amazing since they  usually won't watch the tv for more than 5-10 minutes.  Will actually sat on the couch for at least 30 if not 40 minutes watching!

But besides watching the Christmas movie the boys and I met our friends at a gymnastics gym for free play and the boys had a blast, especially in the foam block pit!

I'm so excited for the next few days. Just soaking up the Christmas magic and experiencing it all through Will and James eyes!

Just a little Christmas SnapChat fun with my boys this morning!

Twelve Days of Christmas | Little Boys Addition: Cookie Baking

Today was a slow day at our house.  We spent most of the day in our Christmas pjs; listening to Christmas music, playing in our playhouse, baking cookies, and mostly just enjoying being together and relaxing.

When is came to the cookie baking really I was the one who made the cookies, but the boys watched a little and most importantly they were my taste testers!  These cookies will be for daddy, our neighbors and our lawn guy (who got his cookies earlier today!)

Twelve Days of Christmas | Little Boy Addition: Cinnamon Ornaments

The boys and I were quite busy today running last minute errands to get ready for this holiday weekend!  On our list was food for both Christmas eve and Christmas day dinner and lots and lots of Cinnamon so we could attempt to make Cinnamon ornaments!  I'm not sure if I picked the best recipe for the ornaments since it only had cinnamon and apple sauce, but it seemed to turn out ok.  I know some recipes call for glue, but I didn't have any and forgot to pick it up at the store.  So I decided that we could do without it and figure having a completely "edible" version of the dough would be best since most things still end up in the boys mouths. (And some did end up in Will's mouth, which he was not impressed with)

We had fun mostly mushing up the dough, playing with the spatula, and pressing the cookie cutters into the dough.  And our house smelled wonderful as the cinnamon ornaments "cooked" in the oven!

On the Ninth Day of Christmas My True Love gave to me:

Twelve Days of Christmas | Little Boys Addition: Christmas PJ Playgroup Party

Today we went to a Christmas PJ Party at our playgroup!  It was so much fun getting all dressed up in our christmas jammies and heading over to our friends house.  Our friend Allie hosted playgroup today and she had Christmas crafts and hot chocolate for us it was so much fun.  The boys had a great time playing with their friends, coloring (and throwing the crayons), and enjoying some snacks!

Twelve Days of Christmas | Little Boy Addition: Playhouse Decorating

There is no denying that my little boys LOVE Christmas lights.  They ooh and ahh over all the "ditty" (pretty)  lights!  So for a little fun today I decided that we would bring some festive cheer, and lights, to the boys playhouse in our backyard!  The boys were excited as soon as I pulled out the lights.  We did this activity later in the afternoon and as the sun started to set and the lights got brighter their level of excitement increased!  There is nothing better than experiencing things through the eyes of children and the pure innocence and joy they get from the simplest things, like a string of Christmas lights!  Warms my heart!!

On the Seventh Day of Christmas my True Love gave to me:

Twelve Days of Christmas | Day 6

7:29 PM

Well we are half way through our 12 days and we are still going strong!  This also means that we are now only a week from Christmas which is exciting but I have to admit I'm a little sad the Christmas is coming so soon.  I love the time leading up to Christmas and when its gone its a little sad and this year we won't be with our families which adds a different level of disappointment knowing that the rest of our family will be together celebrating and we won't be there.  But we will have fun celebrating with the boys and creating memories and traditions with them!

Twelve Days of Christmas | Little Boys Addition: Gingerbread House

Today we attempted to decorate a gingerbread house and to make this activity even more fun Daddy joined in!  I purchased one of those pre-made Gingerbread house kits (No fancy homemade gingerbread here, but the kit worked well!)  I put the house together with a little help from the boys, they helped me push on the roof to make it stick.  It took a couple attempts to get the house to remain standing but once it was up it was time to decorate!  Chris came and joined us for the decorating which consisted of us putting candy on the house, trying to get the boys to put candy on the house, getting the boys to eat their snacks instead of the house decoration and the boys shoving gum drops and other candies into their mouths as fast as they could.
In the end after attempting to put maybe one or two candies onto the house (instead of into their mouths) the boys were done and Chris and I finished decorating the house!

Even though it was crazy, and the boys didn't really try to decorate I'm glad we attempted this it was something fun to do as a family and I'm pretty sure the boys had a good time. (which is the most important part!) =)

Twelve Days of Christmas | Little Boy Addition: Felt Christmas Tree

Today the boys and I have fun making and playing with a Felt Christmas Tree.
It was super simple to make and lots of fun to play with!  (I feel like I will need to come up with other felt things to play with when Christmas is over)  After cutting out the tree and topping it with a star I cut out ornaments.  The felt ornaments stick to the felt tree so Will and James are able to put the ornaments on and take the ornaments off the tree as many times as they like.  I also made a few felt presents to place at the bottom of the tree.  It is fun to watch the boys attempt to put the ornaments on the tree!  I see many days of fun playing with our new tree!!

Twelve Days of Christmas | Day 4

Happy Friday!
And Happy Fourth Day of Christmas!!

Twelve Days of Christmas | Little Boy Addition: Christmas Ornament

The boys and I had a great day today spending time with our friends Allie and Aubrey.  The boys played and snacked and then we completed a Christmas craft.  We made an ornament transforming the boys handprints into a group of snowmen!

Snack time before our craft.  Will got to sit in a booster seat on a big boy chair.  He was so excited!

This craft was a little more difficult than the foot/handprint wreath the boys and I made earlier. It took several attempts to get good hand prints on the ornaments, thankfully it was easy to wipe off the paint and try again!  But the boys were just as enthusiastic about having the paint put on their hands and wanting to hold the ornaments.

On the Fourth day of Christmas my True Love gave to me:

A festive Christmas Wreath made from FOUR sweet little hands and feet!

Today we used the craft we made earlier in the week as Chris' Christmas gift

Twelve Days of Christmas | Day 3

7:38 PM

Well we have made it to day three of our Twelve Days of Christmas and we are still going strong!  (I know three days isn't too impressive but I'm pleased so far!)

Twelve Days of Christmas | Little boys addition: Christmas Movie and Hot Chocolate

We started off the day with a little festive breakfast to get into the Christmas Spirit. Some toast cut into some Christmas shapes just for fun! (I'm not so sure that the boys appreciate the festiveness of their breakfast, but one day they will.  And it makes me happy to do something fun for them)

Today was a rainy day here, yes you read that right rainy!! I think this is maybe the 5th or 6th day of rain I have seen since moving to CA in over 8 months which is crazy, especially for a person who is from FL where is rains like clock work almost every day during the summer.  Anyway, since it was a rainy day I decided that the boys and I would stay snuggled up inside after running our errands and watch a christmas movie and sip on some hot chocolate.  The movie for the day was "A Muppet's Christmas Carol".   I love that movie, it is one of my favorites.  The boys weren't too impressed (the tv usually doesn't hold their attention for long), but they had a great time sipping hot chocolate and playing on the couch.  Today was also a day of no naps, so I'm not so sure about how advisable the hot chocolate was.  The boys were running on fumes and a sugar high, which made for some pretty funny behavior!

Twelve Days of Christmas | Husband Addition:

On the third day of Christmas my True Love gave to me:

Three sticks of chapstick to keep my handsome husbands lips kissably soft and chap free!

With the air being so dry out here it is easy for lips to chap and you can never have too much chapstick.  So hopefully now Chris will have plenty to keep his lips from hurting!

13 month update

Will and James | 13 Months

8:24 PM

The boys are now over a year old!  I wasn't sure if I was going to continue doing monthly updates or not after William and James turned one, but for now I think I will because they are still changing so much each month.

James
Height: Approx. 32 inches (birth: 18.5 inches)
Weight: Approx. 23.8 lbs (birth: 5lbs 9oz)

William
Height: Approx. 32 inches  (birth:18.5 inches)
Weight: Approx. 23.8 lbs (birth: 5lbs 13oz)

Development
This month the boys are growing and changing.  They continue to crawl to get around, but James officially took his first steps this month and his longest streak is 10 steps all together.  Will is still working on walking but he does very well holding onto your fingers or pushing any object he can get to move, including: chairs, empty water jugs, trash cans, baskets, etc.

This month both boys got new teeth!  They both got a new bottom tooth: James' on the left and Will's on the right.  James now has a total of 5 teeth while Will has a total of six.

This month we have started to let the boys use utensils and plates at meal times.  For a while now the boys have used spoons but usually I have been the one to place the food on the spoon.  At thanksgiving we had dinner at a friends house and their daughter was using a plate and fork and we decided to let the boys try and they did surprisingly well, they also seemed to be having a blast.  So I decided it was time to invest in some plates and better forks and spoons for them.  Since then we haven't looked back and while a lot of our meals are spent holding our utensil in one and and using the other hand to eat our food they will usually wait until I give them their fork/spoon to start eating.  And when they use a plate or bowl they are pretty good about not throwing it on the floor which was one of my bigger concerns.

Language and Understanding
This is an area that has seen a lot of changes this month I think.  I really feel as though the boys are truly understanding what I am asking them and have started to follow simple directions and even answer simple questions by using gestures, pointing and looking.

If I ask them where an item is they will either look in the directions or point/gesture in the correct direction.

I have been able to ask them to go pick up something specific and they are starting to actually complete these tasks.  They will go to their wagon if I ask them to.  And possibly the cutest thing is they have started sharing items with each other when I ask them to (sometimes).  They will hold out the item to their brother and usually accompany the action with some sort of babbling, which makes me feel like they are say "here you go brother have this: paci, diaper, cup"  It is so cute and they both get so excited when they do this.

They have really started babbling/ using jargon a lot this month and will hold little conversations with me.  Most of their words sound a like because most consist of /d/ and /t/ sounds with different vowels and sometimes you will here a /b/ and they both have the /m/ sounds but only when it comes to saying "mama".  But if you are paying attention to them you can usually figure out what their little word is.

James says: bye bye, paci, thank you, dada, mama

William says: bye bye, ball, wawa, dada, mama

There may be a few more words they have tried to say (and I may be forgetting a few) but these are words I hear on a consistent basis and am pretty sure what they are.

James

Oh my Sweet James

How are you 13 months already!  Where has the time gone?!?  You are such a big boy now, there are times when I look at you and you really look like a big kid, I can barely handle it!  I love hearing your little voice as you start to learn new words and try to tell me all about things.  You have learned to say "thank you" and while it doesn't really sound correct yet, you use it appropriately and often, especially when mommy either gives you your paci or something you wanted to eat!  You have really taken to Brando this month even though he does not return your feelings.  You want to play with him and chase him around the kitchen, the belly laugh that comes out of you when you are doing this is probably one of the sweetest sounds in the world.  You took your first steps this month and I'm so proud of you!  You aren't really walking yet, but its coming and I'm excited for you!!  James I love watching you grow and learn!  Being able to spend my days with you is the best!

I love you so much my sweet boy!
Love
Mommy

William

My dear William Clayton

You are growing so big so fast and I can't handle it!  I'm pretty sure you think you are bigger than you are!  You are starting to talk and will hold conversations with me, they are sweet moments I will cherish forever!  You are understand so much this month and have started to actually follow directions I give you and it amazes me to see what you understand.   You use bye-bye appropriately and when you add your little wave with it it just melts my heart (and basically anyone else's who sees you doing it)  You will wave and say bye-bye to strangers at the store, the dogs, the park it is so cute and you know what it means.  You will tell me bye-bye and head to your wagon if you are done playing at the park and want to go home.  I love watching you learn and grow, but stay small my sweet boy for just a little longer, mommy's not ready for you to be a big boy!  I love all the time I get to spend with you and am so blessed!

I Love you more than words can say!
Love
Mommy
