Weekly Highlights: January 12-18
9:50 PMHappy Saturday! Another week has come and gone and I don't know how it has happened so quickly. Just a side note: I am a person who considers Sunday the start of my week I feel like there are others who consider Monday the start, which kind are you?
I feel like we have been busy lately which is probably why I feel like this week flew by!
We started our week off by going to church. I have been getting us to the 8:30 church service on Sunday mornings and have been enjoying going at that time. I feel like it leaves so much of the day when Church is done by 9:30, we usually don't end up leaving church until 10:00-10:15 because the boys and Ellie like to enjoy all the snack foods our church offers: donuts, yogurt, fruit and drinks. When we were going to the 10:00 service we weren't getting home until almost noon and I felt like the day was almost over, so silly, but as long as we can I'll continue to try and get us to the early church service.
After Church on Sunday the weather was beautiful even though it was a little chilly so I decided we should go to the beach because we hadn't been there in a while. So I loaded up all the kids and off we went to the beach. We had a blast soaking up the sun, playing in the sand, and trying to stay warm!
Monday the boys had swim lessons again. We are making teeny tiny baby steps with the boys participating in class and I continue with my reward/bribe of ice cream if they do a good job participating. I'm happy to say both boys earned their reward.
Tuesday the boys were back to school and it was their day of the week for show and tell. William took Buzz and James took Woody in to show their class.
Wednesday Will had his first speech therapy session. Unfortunately James' therapist was out of the office so they canceled his appointment and he wasn't able to start. But Will did great and had fun playing with his therapist. I'm excited to see the progress he makes with his speech. After therapy we went to a new park to play for about half an hour before swim lessons. We had a blast playing minus the time when slipped and literally fell on my bum, hard. I was just thankful that I fell on my bum and not forward because I was wearing Benjamin. I'm also extra thankful that when I woke up on Thursday my back wasn't bothering me! Swim lessons went really well again on Wednesday and Will actually let the teacher float him on his back and practice arm strokes away from the stairs!! A big step for him. And James let the teacher practice the arm strokes with him away from the stairs. So off for another reward of ice cream we went after lessons.
Thursday was back to school for the boys. On our drive to school we got to see the most beautiful rainbow over the bay. It ended up raining on Thursday which I thoroughly enjoyed! Ellie and I spent our time at home with Benjamin playing memory and listening to doc mcstuffins music (a current favorite right now). When I picked up the boys they both presented me with necklaces they made for me at school. It was so sweet and they were so excited to see me wearing them. James also made Ellie a bracelet with purple beads "because purple is her favorite color". I have noticed this week and last Thursday that James has been extra tired after school, and extra moody, I think he's having a bit of a challenge readjusting getting back into the swing of things after winter break.
Friday morning I texted our friends to see if they wanted to meet up at the park for a bit so we ended up spending about two hours playing at the park and riding bikes. It makes me laugh because all the kids ended up playing on dog agility equipment that is in the dog park located right next to the actual park instead of playing on the slides and other park equipment. Ellie, Benjamin and I went to Costco to get some food for the week. And when we got back I brought out a new "puzzle/letter activity" for the kids. William really enjoyed the activity and was having fun practicing his letters and even starting to learn how to sound out words.
A sweet story from Friday night that stemmed from a small challenge was when I was tucking James into bed and said "I love you" and he responded to me "I love you too Mommy, You fill my whole heart". He is my boy with big emotions: happy, sad, anger, etc. And he challenges me the most sometimes, but he also shows me he loves me the most.
Today we just hung out at home and Ellie, Benjamin and I finished our grocery shopping for the coming week at the commissary. The boys spent the day playing with their legos and their pj masks characters. I love watching them play together now, they really use their imaginations and create stories.
