Starting Preschool: Will and James

10:39 PM

This coming week is the last week before my boys start school for the very first time!  This is going to be the last week where we have no place that we have to be.  This is the last week where they just get to be little kids enjoying doing whatever they want during the day.  Playing with each other, mommy and Ellie, going to the park, aquarium, beach or wherever else we may decide, running errands with me (because lets be honest running errands with only one little person in tow will be much easier).  They are going to be attending preschool only two days a week for 3 hours each day but I am torn on how I feel about it.  I am both excited and nervous for them.  I am hoping and praying that they will adjust easily to being separated from me.  William seems to be a little more excited about it and James is a little more apprehensive.  I always like to prep my kids for things so I will start talking about them weeks/months before they happen.  And when I initially mentioned going to school both boys would say "No I want to stay home with you!"  Now I only occasionally will get that response.

In order to prep the boys further for going to school we have started to attend church each Sunday for the past month and a half and the boys have been going to Sunday school.  This worked out great because the preschool they will be attending is actually located at the church we have been attending.  They have been able to get used to me dropping them off and coming back to pick them up and have been doing well.  They do always ask me if I am staying downstairs while they are in Sunday school so that will be different when it comes time for Preschool because I won't be staying in the building.

Ok I started this post obviously before the boys started school and now they have been in school for a while.  And I am pleased to say they are loving school!  Their first day of school went extremely well.  I dropped them off and they went with a smile!  They went into their classroom, put on their name tags and joined circle time without looking back at me after giving me hugs and kisses good bye.  The person who had the hardest time with them starting school was Ellie.  She asked for Will and James about every 15 minutes.

After being in school for a while now I am pleased to say they are still enjoying going every day.  Will and James have a very special bond.  They find comfort in each other and sometimes can block out others (something their teacher noticed and commented on, thankfully after talking to them about how they have to listen to their teacher they improved their behavior immediately in school).  They also have started playing with the other students at school and are listening well to their teacher.

I love these pictures of the boys.
I feel like it just shows their relationship with each other and the love they have for each other

Starting school, even preschool two days a week, felt like a huge transition to me.  My boys have always been home with me all day every day and starting school meant that was over.  For the rest of their lives they will never be home full time with me.  (These comments sound so dramatic, but its true). Even when the days are long and challenging there is no other place I would rather be!  My boys are starting a new chapter in their lives, they are growing up and starting new adventures.  I am so proud of them!
