Moving Coast to Coast

11:52 AM

It is that time again.  We have received our orders and are getting ready for our next big move!  My whole life has been spent on the east coast: I was born in Maine, lived in NY for a few years, spent most of my childhood in FL, and in the last 2 years I've lived in both SC and VA.  Now I am getting ready to move my family across the country to California!  I have many mixed emotions about this move. I am trying to look at it as an adventure, this is a place I would never live if we were choosing for ourselves.  I look forward to exploring the areas around where we will be.  I also look forward to being in the same state as my friend Kate for the first time in 7-8 years!  Even though we will still live several hours away from each other, I'm hoping we will be able to get together at least a few times while we are out there.

I am now working hard to organize our move.  I really dislike this part.  I have been getting our packing and pick up scheduled, started organizing and cleaning out things we don't need to move with us, and working on the legistics of moving my family of 4 plus 4 dogs across the country.

We are in the count down now 16 days from now we will start our journey cross country.  I'm hoping we have safe and smooth travels!

5 month update

William & James | 5 Months

Another month has come and gone, I can't believe it I feel like I was just sitting here at my desk writing their 4 month update and now it's time for month 5!  Time needs to slow done, it is stealing my babies from me as they are quickly changing and growing.

EAT
Eating has not changed much since last month.  We have not added any solid feedings yet, so they are still being exclusively breastfed for now.  They are still having 6 feedings a day: 5 breastfeeds and 1 bottle feed of breast milk at night.  They are still waking up to nurse 1-2x at night, I am hoping this might decrease to once in the next month.  The times I breast feed the boys are still some of my favorite times with them.  I love the cuddles we get during those sweet times.  Will and James have started holding hands at times while nursing, it is funny to watch them as they are getting bigger and starting to get into each others space while nursing.

SLEEP
Sleep has been ok this month.  They are usually only waking up 1-2x per night to nurse which is pretty good.  The only problem for me is that they don't always wake up at the same time, meaning I'm up 2-4x a night.  I would love to get 6 straight hours of sleep, but I'd take 4 hours if I could get that haha  William and James are still sleeping in the pack n play next to our bed.  I've been thinking about moving them to their cribs, but we have some big changes coming soon (more on that in another post coming soon) so I don't want to have them going through too many changes at once.

DEVELOPMENT, GROWTH, AND PLAY
We haven't hit too many milestones this month but I have a feeling some are coming right around the corner.  The boys are working on rolling from their backs to their bellies, they are able to with just a little help from mom or dad.  They can roll onto their sides and get their legs flipped over, but they get caught on that arm laying on the ground.  We are also working on sitting with support either from mom and dad or our boppy pillows.  While the boys aren't able to roll onto their bellies or squirm yet they are definitely starting to move and are showing a desire to move more and be off their backs.  They can spin themselves in circles and move a little bit.  So it is no longer a guarantee that they will be in the same position you put them down in if you walk away for a moment.

Will and James have really taken to lovies and blankies this month.  They enjoy holding them and snuggling them to their faces.  They are also enjoying these jellycat bunny rattles they got for Easter.  They have started to try and put most things they can get their hands on into their mouths.  They seem to enjoy either their hands or soft fuzzy toys to chew on right now compared to actual teethers, making me think we aren't actually teething yet probably just enjoying putting new things in our mouths.

They are getting better at grabbing things as their hand eye coordination improves.  They will spend several minutes just watching their hands in front of their faces.  And you can see them concentrating as they reach our their little hand to try and grab whatever you are holding out from them.

We have had real belly laughs this month from both boys.  It cracks me up each time I hear their little chuckles.  They continue to love using their voices cooing and chatting away to anyone or anything that will listen.

My boys are growing way too quickly and are now wearing 3-6 month clothes, some 6 month shirts and shorts and 6 month jammies.  We have also graduated to size 2 diapers.  They grew out of size 1 diapers much faster than they grew out of newborn diapers.  I actually had to return a box of size 1 diapers I had in the closet for a box of size 2.

James

Oh my Sweet James,  You have been a sweet momma's boy this month!  You have seemed to need some extra snuggles this month, which I don't mind.  I'll take all sweet James cuddles I can get!  This month you learned how to make a growling sound and have been entertaining your daddy and me by making your new noise.  You want to move so badly and I won't be surprised if you start scooting yourself around on the floor sooner rather than later.  It is kind of funny to watch you scrunch up your booty and try to kick your legs back out to propel yourself forward, unfortunately for you all you do is send your legs flying back out behind you.  You have a great fondness for soft fuzzy things.  The look on your face when I gave you the new lovie I got for you was priceless, you were so excited that mommy gave you this new wonderful thing.  I got to hear your beautiful laugh this month, and it is one of the sweetest sounds I have ever heard.  You thought it was so funny to have mommy blow on your belly.  I hope you stay as  sweet as you are now as you continue to grow!  I love spending my time with you during the day you bring so much Joy to my day!  I love you Jamie James

William

My little William.  What a big boy you are becoming.  You are so happy most of the time and quick to smile at others when we are out and about.  I actually heard you talking and trying to get the attention of a person behind us in line one day, it was so sweet.  You were very pleased when the gentleman responded to your attempt to get his attention.  You have learned to blow bubbles and raspberries this month.  I also got to hear your sweet laughter this month, you and mommy were making funny noises and all of a sudden you burst out with these sweet belly laughs.  It was one of the best sounds I have ever heard.  You have been enjoying your play mat for months now, but this is the first month I saw you reach out and try to grab your dangling friends.  It is so much fun to watch you start to enjoy your toys. I am one lucky momma to get to call you my son!  I am so thankful for all the love and happiness you bring to my life on a daily basis!  I Love you William
