Two Month Favorites

9:22 AM

I can't believe my boys are two months old now! Time is flying but in that time I have found a few items that have made month two a little easier and more enjoyable.

1. Wubbanubs: My boys love their Wubbanubs! These pacifiers are not only cute and adorable but they are much easier to find in the middle of the night when you have to go digging around in the dark looking for it because your baby spit it out and is screaming because they want it back NOW!

2. Latch Bottles: While the boys are being exclusively breast fed they do receive a bottle of breast milk at night or anytime I'm away from them and their dad needs to feed them. My friend Kate recommended these bottles to me after having her daughter and I love them. The nipples are large and allow the boys to latch onto them like they would the breast. They have had no nipple confusion while using these bottles and accept them with no problem when they are offered to the boys.

3. Brest Friend Twin Nursing Pillow:  I tandem nurse the boys when ever we are at home and this pillow has made nursing them at the same time much easier. I really enjoy tandem nursing the boys because it allows me to keep them on the same schedule and decreases the amount of time spent nursing. If you have twins (or are going to have twins) and want to nurse them together I would highly recommend this pillow!

4.  Aveeno Baby Lotion:  I love giving my boys baths: it makes them smell sweet and clean, but I worry about drying out their soft baby skin. The Aveeno Baby Lotion keeps their skin so soft and moisturized after bath time. It is gentle on their skin and they have had no reaction to the lotion. I enjoy it myself on my hands to keep them soft and moisterized,  especially now with the dry air of
winter.

5. Playmat: This playmat was a gift the boys received for Christmas and they LOVE it! They have started to notice items around them a lot more and love the animals that dangle down.  They will lay on the playmat smiling away at their hanging friends for 15-20 minutes happy as can be.

 6. Bouncy seats: The bouncy seats are great as another place for the boys to sit. When they were first home they spent a lot of time in their rock n plays but since they sleep in them I try to mostly just have the boys in those at nights since they associate them with bed time, so the bouncy seats is a nice alternative. During the day the boys take their naps in the bouncy seats all wrapped up in a blanket.

7. Baby Jogger City Select: As far as double strollers go I think this is probably one of the best. It is a little long but it is much better than having a side by side double stroller, which I would think could be difficult to maneuver through tight spaces.  I have rarely found a space we can't squeeze threw in this stroller and as they grow there are so many different options for configuring the seats. I'm looking forward to using this stroller for years!

William & James - 2 Months

3:16 PM

Two months.  My sweet, adorable, beautiful baby boys are two months old!  Where has the time gone?!?!  I feel like I blinked and the weeks flew by too quickly; I worry that I will blink again and they will be turning one, then off to school and eventually be driving and off to college.  I know I'm getting ahead of myself but it truly feels that way.

In these last two months my boys have grown and changed so much.

James: 2 months
Weight: 9lbs (Birth: 5lbs 9oz, 1 month: 6lbs 13oz)
Height: 21.5 inches (Birth: 18.5 in, 1 month: 20 in)

William: 2 months
Weight: 9lbs 6oz (Birth: 5lbs 13oz, 1 month: 7lbs 6oz)
Height: 21.5 inches (Birth: 18.5 in, 1 month: 20.5 in)

They did a great job at the doctors this month considering they had to get their first round of shots.  They only cried for a little bit, stopping immediately when I picked them up.   I think it was harder on me, watching them have their little legs held down then it was on them.  They are both gaining weight and growing beautifully with nice curves on their growth charts.  Their pediatrician was pleased and said I was producing enough milk for both my boys and there was no need for any supplementing with formula.

EAT
I am still exclusively breast feeding both of the boys.  They nurse 6-7 times a day and then receive a bottle of pumped breast milk before going to bed at night.  I have found that my supply seems to be a little less in the evenings and the boys would wake up more frequently at night to nurse due to hungry.  To solve this problem and get their bellies nice and full James and Will get a 5oz bottle before going to sleep.  They wouldn't eat that much during the day if they received a bottle, but at night they will down the 5oz in about 10-15 minutes no problem.  My boys are little piggies!

When feeding the boys I continue to tandem feed them usually sitting in the rocker recliner in their nursery using my brest friend twin nursing pillow (this pillow is great and I would recommend it to anyone thinking about nursing twins).  Since they are getting bigger and have better head control if we are not home or just not sitting in their nursery I am now able to nurse them by sitting them on my lap facing each other.  I am truly enjoying breast feeding the boys and love the snuggles we share while they are feeding.

My supply of milk seems to continue to be enough for both boys as they are growing well.  I do at times feel like my supply decreases at night but I have heard this is a normal feeling.  I continue to pump twice a day once in the morning to get milk for their evening bottle feeding and once around the time they receive the bottle since I am missing a nursing session, in total I am able to pump any where from 9-14oz of breast milk daily.  I'm not sure about foods and supplements helping maintain or increase milk supply but I do try to eat oatmeal and other oat based cereals throughout the day having read that it can help.  I also was given Mother's Milk Tea by my friend Natalie and I feel as though it really helped increase my supply as well.

SLEEP
For the most part the boys are pretty good sleepers. We are still trying to figure out the best schedule for them but for the most part they nap any where from 30 minutes- 2 hours between feedings during the day and can sleep 4-5 hour stretches at night. A few times they have actually slept 6-7 hours at night. Those times are few and far between, but they do give me hope for longer nights of sleep in the future!

During this past month we traveled for the holidays driving 12 hours down to FL and all the traveling certainly messed with their sleep patterns. Now that we are home I am hoping to work out a new and better schedule for them. Right now they are receiving their bottle anytime between 10-11, they sleep until about 3-4 and then go back to sleep until 8-9. I think I would like to try and move up their bottle feeding to an earlier time but I'm not exactly what time is best or the best way to go about it. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.

My sweet baby James. My how you have grown this month. You are a happy guy and seem to be slightly less demanding than your brother unless you are hungry and then we hear all about it until you are fed. You have started to smile and will give me the sweetest looks when you are getting your
diaper changed and we are face to face. You also have big smiles for all of your hanging friends on
your playmat. You tried out the bumbo seat at your friend Olivia's house and I was surprised how much you enjoyed sitting up and looking around. You have great head control and acted like sitting in that seat was no big deal. (Your pediatrician commented on how strong you and your brother are).  Although when it comes to working on your neck strength during tummy time you would definitely much rather just sleep than lift up your head.  I have to say you are skeptical of bath time enjoying it one moment and then screaming as if it is torture the next, I'm hoping you start enjoying it more soon! You tend to be my champion sleeper at night and I am so proud of you!  You had a lot of first this month: first road trip, first time meeting your grandma and grandpa Brave, all your aunts and uncles and cousins and you celebrated your first Christmas and New Years.  As sad as I am watching you out grow your tiny newborn phase of life I'm so excited find out more about the little man you are becoming, to watch you grow and learn and interact more with the world around you.  I love you
my sweet baby James, my oldest son (by 6 minutes). I am truly blessed to be your mommy,
Love you forever

My handsome Will. My chunky monkey and little potato. You are growing to be such a big boy. You still out weigh your brother by almost 1/2 a pound and I can definitely feel it when I pick you up! Your once skinny legs are starting to get the sweetest rolls on them. You tend to be more demanding than your brother but not by much you are still extremely laid back for a baby and take after your mommy and daddy that way. You also have started smiling a week or so after your brother but now you freely give those smiles to me every morning which makes getting up with you and your brother that much sweeter!  Just like your brother you are so strong and have great head control. Seeing how much you enjoyed sitting in the bumbo seat at your friend Olivia's house prompted me to buy one for you when we got home.  You are doing great at tummy time and are really trying to lift up your head so you can see around. You love to snuggle with me or your daddy and enjoy watching your doggies as they play around you. You did a lot this month:  celebrating your first Christmas and New Year's Eve, meeting your grandma and grandpa Brave, all your aunts, uncles and cousins and even survived your first road trip traveling over 12 hours in the car to FL, you were a rockstar and so well behaved! I can't wait to see what kind of person you become William it is a joy watching you grow and learn each day! Being your mommy is one of the biggest blessings of my life!
Love you forever

New Year New Adventures

11:37 AM

I want to start this new year off with a place to write down and remember all of the adventures our family will have this year! 2016 will be our first full year as being parents, we have a change of duty station coming this spring and we will celebrate birthdays, holidays and at least one very good friend's wedding this summer!

Last November we welcomed our twin boys, James and William, and there are so many things that happen with them that I don't want to forget: how tiny they are, the little faces they make when waking up, and all the things they are learning.   If I don't have a place to record these things I'm sure I won't remember; I'm pretty sure my memory hasn't recovered from the pregnancy and not having a full nights sleep in the last 9 weeks hasn't helped.

I am excited to start documenting all our goings on. Hope you all are having a great start to 2016!
